Legendary Coach and CEO Talk Pivotal Plays

MorganFranklin hosted its first Pivotal Plays™ Executive Series event on June 13, 2011, at the Comcast SportsNet studios in Bethesda, Maryland. The exclusive event kicked off an illuminating series, bringing together special guests from sports, business, and government to share their personal views on the factors that define Pivotal Plays. This inaugural event featured distinguished panelists Steve Joyce, president and CEO of Choice Hotels International, and Morgan Wootten, legendary head basketball coach at DeMatha Catholic High School. Ivan Carter, host of Washington Post Live on Comcast SportsNet, served as the guest moderator for the event.

Coach Morgan Wootten
DeMatha Catholic High School


From 1956 to 2002, Morgan Wootten coached high school basketball at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. He has the most wins as a head coach in the history of basketball at any level. A number of his players went on to play in the NBA, including Adrian Dantley and Danny Ferry.

Coach Wootten gained legendary status in 1965 when his DeMatha team beat Lew Alcindor's Power Memorial Academy, ending the team's 71-game winning streak. His career coaching record stands at 1,274-192. In 2000, Coach Wootten was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame—one of only three high school basketball coaches to receive the honor.

Ivan Carter

As the host of Washington Post Live, Ivan Carter uses his dynamic personality and sports acumen to deliver an entertaining combination of in-depth reporting, expert analysis, and outspoken opinion to Comcast SportsNet's daily sports talk show.

A veteran sports reporter, Mr. Carter spent the first 10 years of his career in print journalism before joining Comcast SportsNet to host Washington Post Live in April 2009. Most recently, he spent four years as a reporter for the Washington Post, where he covered the Washington Wizards. In that role, he made frequent appearances on the network as a contributor.

Prior to joining the Washington Post, Mr. Carter was a sports reporter for the Kansas City Star for six years. In this position, he covered a variety of major sporting events and served as the beat reporter for the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs.
